This past year has been one of our best yet for our research, and we've had four papers published just in the last few months featuring our research in congenital heart disease, including in the prestigious journals Circulation Research and Human Molecular Genetics. We have continued to study the ETS1 gene (the Jacobsen syndrome “heart gene”) and are gaining more new and exciting insights into how this gene causes congenital heart defects.

I am particularly excited about the new genetic pathways that we are discovering that are regulated by ETS1. We have even identified two “downstream” genes that are regulated by ETS1 that likely have a critical role in causing hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS), the most common cause of death in all infants born with congenital heart disease".
