Shepard Stacy Summerlin
August 30, 2014 to April 4, 2015
Shepard was a perfect, happy little guy that completed our family. He was beautiful, snuggly and had the most kissable cheeks and tiniest hands.
He was diagnosed with Hydrocephalus in November of 2014 and had a successful shunt placed during emergency surgery. He recovered with ease and met his daddy (home on Emergency leave from deployment with the US Navy) for the first time the week before Thanksgiving 2014.
In January of 2015, Shepard had some concerning symptoms and was taken to Radys Children's Hospital in San Diego, California. A CT scan revealed a large tumor. It was later determined to be an ATRT, Atypical Teratoid Rhabdoid Tumor. True to form, it was large, inoperable and incurable.
Shepard and his family spent the last of his days soaking in the California sunsets, playing on his playmat with his big brother John-Mark and snuggling and reading with Momma and Daddy (home again from deployment, thanks to the American Red Cross).
Shepard passed away on the evening of April 4, 2015 in his mothers arms at Rady Children's Hospital. The doctors, nurses and allied staff at the Peckham Cancer Center were professional, compassionate and caring as we faced the impossible and said good bye to our precious son.
We are grateful to have been apart of such as special life. Shepard continues to teach us to number our days; investing in people and sharing the love of Christ is all that matters.
All donations benefit the Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego.
