This is our first year joining a fund raiser for Rady's Children's Hospital and expect this will become a very active charity my family supports and becomes family with. As my wife and I prepare to welcome our first child in November we learned that he inherited the family heart issues and will need to have heart surgery his first month. We have now spent a lot of time at Rady's in the last 6 months and have become so confident we are in the best place in the world for our son to be born and have his heart fixed much like mine was.
With the news of our son 's arrival my first response was to run out and buy baby jerseys of all of our favorite sports teams so we can match during our sports time together growing up. Later I learned that under those jerseys we will also have matching open heart surgery scars. I pray and hope my experiences and growth and healthy life I have had since pediatric heart surgery will be an area of strength for my son to grow and strive for anything he wants in this world.
At a recent wedding we met a new friend and randomly we discussed her coordinating a team for Rady's Childrens Walk in two weeks. I thought it was perfect timing and a sign for us to give back to the healthcare facility that is going to be giving our family so much more then we could ever give back.
