Cate was an active, healthy, funny, feisty 5-year-old who was taking summer by storm in 2015. She was learning how to surf, attending camp at the San Diego Zoo and getting ready to start kindergarten. In July she began to suffer from occasional high fevers, muscle aches and fatigue. Three weeks later, on August 8, after a night of fever and night sweats, Cate’s pediatrician sent to her Rady Children's Hospital for a complete blood count. Hours later, she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. She was immediately admitted to the Hematology/Oncology Unit to start treatment.
Cate is currently fighting her way through a two and half year treatment regimen of multiple types of chemotherapy and steroids. Cate's family could not be more proud of their warrior princess. With her best friend Sam, a furry 92 pound labrador by her side, Cate continues to face this battle with fierce bravery and determination. She loves dogs, art, the beach, jewelry, Lush bath bombs and Taylor Swift. Her last chemotherapy treatment is scheduled for October 13, 2017. And every day she moves onward and closer to the finish line ... #CateStrong!
