Infusion Center Prize Box
Help Collect Toys for the Infusion Center!
Hello! My name is Gabi. I have had the privilege of working as a nurse at Rady Children's Hospital in the Oncology Department. There, I witnessed great courage demonstrated by the children during the treatment of their illnesses. Many children have to undergo treatments ranging from 6 months to over 2 years, and spend countless hours in the clinic receiving their infusions.
In 2015, I was asked by the hospital to have a toy box made for the kids in the Infusion Center. This beautiful wooden box shown in the photo above was then hand-crafted and donated by Bill Collins and Lloyd Uber. Fundraising began so that the prize box could be filled with toys and gift cards that would serve as incentives and rewards for the children and teenagers at a time when they are most vulnerable and frightened.
The box was then dedicated in honor of a past patient and someone very close to my heart, Steven Borkowski. Steven spent hours in the Infusion Center as a teenager, and now, at 26, he fondly remembers choosing gift cards from the prize box to buy video games, and what a positive impact this made during such a difficult time in his life.
The prize box has since been kept full of toys through the generous donations of people like you in our amazing community. Each toy truly makes a difference for every child that goes through a day of treatment.
Please consider donating to keep the prize box filled, and to help our kids smile, one toy at a time.
